Repository: Oxford U Wadham College
Shelfmark: A35.25
Published by: John Wolfe
Published for: William Ponsonbie
Published Location: London
Published date: 1590
Copynotes: "Just part I, bks I-III. It lacks a title page." (Sandra Bailey, 7/6/10). Eureka note: (-tp); with Qq4, without Pp6-7 cancellanda; p.332 spaces blank. Email from librarian: "The title page is missing, meaning that we cannot check the layout there: a critical factor in the two other variants, I note. But, while the leaf numbered page 599/600 is laid out similarly to the rest of Pp and is presumably Pp5, the following pages, correctly numbered on 601 to 606, are set out as if for a far longer quarto page and are thus very close cropped at the tail of each leaf, revealing no signatures. These are presumably the inserted leaves which distinguish this variant. So I think we can call our copy a variant ESTC 23081 variant."
Editionnotes: In verse. Printer’s name from STC. One of three variants of this edition. This one has dedication on title page verso signed "Ed. Spenser"; first digit of imprint date is under the "r" of "for". Quire 2Q is intended to cancel 2P6,7, but the latter are usually retained; pagination above reflects this.
